Andrew burrow, MSc(Eng), BSc(Hons), CEng, MCIWEM
Andrew Burrow is an experienced business leader and strategist and spent much of the last 20 years organically developing and leading businesses in the engineering and environmental fields. He has operated at the board level in global multidisciplinary consultancies for many years before starting 5Capitals. Andrew combines this managerial and business experience in leading 5Capitals activities. He has lived on three different continents, with project experience in 5 continents. As a Chartered Engineer, Andrew’s technical expertise has included participation in all stages involved in implementing various engineering projects.
His vast experience includes feasibility studies, budget cost estimating, conceptual and detailed planning, preliminary and detailed design, tender and contract documentation preparation, final cost estimating, site supervision, project administration, and management. Primarily involved in water and environmental projects and particular sewerage, water supply, water loss detection, environmental impact assessment, environmental management, and due diligence, Andrew has the technical background to help him be the commercial lead of the business.
One of Andrew’s key qualities is his client development and relationship management skills. He uses these skills to grow the business and help convene partnerships to deliver complex Client needs.
Kenneth Wade, MSc, Cbiol, MIBiol
Kenneth Wade is an Environmental and Social Strategy Expert with 35 years of experience in major projects across four continents. He began his career as an Environmental Regulator in the UK water industry. For 11 years, Kenneth developed biological indicators for regional and national projects influencing UK Environmental Policy. He was among the early pioneers to publish evidence of acid rainfall impacts on river biodiversity in the UK.
As a Technical Director for ESIA, SEA, ESDD, auditing, and Waste Minimisation projects, Ken has led multidisciplinary teams on many iconic projects in the public and private sectors worldwide. He has often provided expert evidence in courts of law and planning inquiries.
For the past 15 years, Ken has developed environmental strategies and standards for national regulators and new economic cities in Saudi Arabia. He has also provided technical advisory roles for Ministries and Municipalities and lead a portfolio Compliance Assessment for the most significant public sector power utility in the Region.
Ken has taken significant Power, Water, Mining, and Infrastructure projects to Financial Close. From his base in the UAE, he leads 5Capitals’ expert teams throughout the Middle East, Africa, and the ASEAN Region. Fossil fuel and renewable projects for all technologies have been successfully completed to Equator Principles, World Bank/IFC, numerous financial institutions, and Export Credit Agency standards for >50,000 MW of Power and >2million m3/ daily potable Water.
Max Burrow, BSc (Hons)
Max Burrow is 5Capitals’ Operations Manager and an experienced Environmental Consultant based in Dubai with coverage of 5Capitals’ domestic & international operations. Experienced in the management, technical, undertaking, and preparation of environmental & social studies, systems, plans, audits, and due diligence; Max has worked on a variety of projects, business programs, acquisitions, and government strategies. Such work has ranged from multi-billion dollar industrial developments and significant infrastructure projects to bespoke ESG risk identification processes for corporate acquisitions and asset compliance management.
Max’s work at 5Capitals has covered the MENA, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia regions, primarily on projects seeking international finance and planning approvals from an environmental and social perspective. Such work emphasizes project compliance with lender requirements (e.g., Equator Principles, OECD, WB/IFC, EBRD) and local regulatory requirements.
Hailing from Exeter (UK), Max graduated in Environmental Management at The University of Birmingham (UK) and spent several years working in the roads & highways sector on behalf of the UK’s Highways Agency and private developers before joining 5Capitals.
Michael Nates has over 25 years of expertise as an Executive Director and management consultant working on leadership and empowerment, organisational growth, risk management, and transformation. Trained as a Mechanical Engineer and has worked within corporate, consultancy, and NGO roles, Michael has since been awarded professional Engineering, IOSH, Fellow membership, and Chartered Environmentalist status. He is a trained Executive Coach and is currently finishing a Doctorate of Business Administration degree focusing on expatriate self-interest and behaviour.
By integrating technical and social competencies, he focuses on implementing practical, cost-effective people-centric solutions. In 2007, Michael was the runner-up Strategy Consultant of the year organised by the UK’s Management Consulting Association. In short, Michael is a Professional Generalist with a suite of management and technical experience that enables him to lead teams of technical and content specialists to deliver business goals and growth.
Michael is multi-cultural, having worked for several years in Southern Africa, the UK, and the Middle East. Sectors include power and renewable energy, construction, built environmental and real estate, transport, and professional services.
